Fernley · Along I-80
A fast-growing small city about 35 minutes east of Reno, where I-80 meets US-95 and open high-desert land stretches in every direction.
About the Area
Fernley sits against the eastern foothills of the Virginia Range in Lyon County, roughly 35 minutes east of Reno-Sparks. Incorporated in 2001, it has grown quickly and is Lyon County's largest city.
Daily life moves at a small-city pace, with most hospitals, dining and major shopping in Reno, and BLM open land surrounding town. Fernley also sits at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and US-95, with Pyramid Lake, Lahontan Reservoir and the Black Rock Desert all within reach.
Communities
Newer-construction neighborhoods on the western edge and just south of central Fernley. Donner Trail Estates offers easy I-80 access, and Desert Lakes is built around a golf course.
Established resale homes close to Main Street and local shops, mostly without an HOA. Newer subdivision phases are also opening on the south and east edges of town.
Larger lots and agricultural land around the edges of town for buyers who want extra room. Homes on private wells should be checked carefully, so ask Aaron what to look for.
Lifestyle
City parks, the Fernley Aquatic Center, a community center and a public library, with local shops along Main Street and US-50 Alt.
Fernley 95A Speedway hosts dirt-track racing and has a motocross track. The year also brings the Music, Murals and Margaritas festival and the county's largest 4th of July celebration.
The Main Street Art Park features the Bottlecap Gazebo and a 25-foot-long Desert Tortoise sculpture, and the Historic Fernley Depot dates to 1914.
Pyramid Lake is about half an hour northwest, Lahontan Reservoir about 20 minutes south, and Brady Hot Springs about 15 minutes northwest.
